Colour Coded Bookshelves

As I was searching for a new book to read from my shelves, I got quickly distracted...I decided to try an experiment. I've been inspired (as usual!) by a trend seen on many blogs in the way of bookshelf organization...the colour coded trend, as shown below. Once I stood in front of my shelves, I knew I had to give it a quick try. And no, the collection below is not my bookshelf...I wish...

Instead, here are the two shelves I decided to take a trial run with. They are old bookcases I removed from my dining room (see here). When I moved in, I organized them by subject....health, self help, fiction, etc.

My random, not impressive book collection organized
by subject...

Now...organized by colour.

Granted, due to my pint size experiment, it's hard for me to get the grand appeal that seems to be attracting many, but I do like the concept of the colour blocking...like this...
My thoughts during my ten minute design challenge...I like to have books of the same subject in the same area. I don't like my embarrassing diet books brushing shoulders with my few good reads. Maybe it's just me. We all have our own way of organizing; maybe you will organize each colour and then within that group arrange books by subject? Or perhaps alphabetical order? That's where my OCD quickly disappears and I can't be bothered. One thing I did like was how Lauren Conrad (or her home stylist), decided to not only colour block book spines but also mixed in other objects with the same colour. Clever. Very Clever.

So, from my perspective, this look does have potential. Just keep in mind that your organization may change and be more creative with more than just books! It will be more dynamic and less like everyone else's!
